You will learn the definition of management, efficiency and effectiveness, the four management functions, levels of management, technical, human and conceptual skills, strategic, tactical and operational plans, policies, procedures, rules, programmes, projects and budgets, the planning steps and SMART objectives, functional, divisional and matrix structures, job descriptions, span of control, centralisation and delegation, Maslow's hierarchy and Herzberg's two factors, leadership styles, communication, the control process, types of control, management dashboards, scientific problem solving, the HR cycle, why staff leave, fair selection, induction and performance appraisal. Each lesson includes diagrams, worked examples and short questions that check your understanding, and the course ends with a 20-question final exam.
