A hands-on course for IT staff: plan, install, secure and operate a private ChatGPT-style assistant on a server in your office with Ollama, Open WebUI and Docker, so confidential documents and conversations never leave the company network.
Many organisations cannot send contracts, drawings, medical or personnel files to public AI services. Open models have become good enough that an IT team can run a capable assistant on its own hardware, with the data staying inside the building. This course shows how to do it properly.
You follow the IT engineer of Rafidain Engineering Consultants, an example firm in Baghdad with 45 staff. You compare cloud and private AI, and size the server to the models you need, with three example builds. On Ubuntu Server 24.04 you install Docker and, for NVIDIA GPUs, the driver and container toolkit, then start Ollama and Open WebUI from a single compose file designed so that only the web interface is reachable. You download and test open models in Arabic and English with a set of test prompts, and read speed and GPU use like an engineer. In Open WebUI you create the admin, approve users, close sign-ups, set up groups and model access, and build knowledge collections so staff can chat with approved documents. You add HTTPS with Caddy and a firewall that allows only the office network, and learn why the server must never be exposed to the internet. Finally you set up backups, updates and a monthly routine, write a usage policy, and run a pilot before opening the service to everyone.
Every lesson has illustrated step-by-step screens, copy-ready commands and configuration files, short narrated videos and knowledge checks. Starter files include the compose file, Caddyfile, annotated install commands, a sizing table, test prompts and a usage policy template. The course ends with a 15-question final exam.
IT administrators, system and network engineers, and technical staff who will run AI services inside an organisation. You should be comfortable with Linux on the command line, SSH and basic networking. You need a server or workstation for testing (a GPU is recommended).
