What do we mean by a strong personality?
A strong personality is not loud, harsh or dominant. It is steady: clear about what it values, calm under pressure, honest in what it says and respectful in how it says it.
We all know people who seem "strong" because they shout, interrupt or always get their way. And we know others who are quiet but whom everyone trusts in a crisis. This course is about the second kind of strength: inner strength that shows in behaviour.
The good news is that personal strength is not a fixed trait you are born with. Like a muscle, it grows with practice: in how you think, how you manage yourself and how you deal with others.
Meet Sama
In this course you will follow Sama, 31, an accountant at Qalaa Electrical Supplies, a distributor of cables, panels and lighting in Kirkuk with 140 employees. She is accurate, hard-working and knows the company's numbers better than anyone. Six months ago she was promoted to lead the finance team of six.
But the promotion was hard:
- In meetings, Mr Talal, a senior accountant with 30 years' experience, often dismissed her ideas, and she went quiet.
- The sales manager, Mr Ghassan, pressed her to approve credit for customers who had not paid, and she usually gave in.
- She said yes to every request, stayed late most nights and lay awake replaying conversations.
Her manager, Mr Nawzad, believed in her and asked Ms Layla, the company's HR development lead, to coach her.
Passive, aggressive or strong?

Ms Layla began by showing Sama this picture. "You think the opposite of weak is aggressive," she said. "It isn't. Mr Ghassan raises his voice to win; you go quiet to keep the peace. Both of you lose something. The goal is the third way: calm, clear and firm."

Where are you starting from?
Ms Layla asked Sama to rate herself on eight traits, and asked Mr Nawzad to rate her too.

Sama was surprised: her manager saw more strength in her than she saw in herself. Her real gap was not ability but assertiveness and confidence. That is common: many capable people underrate themselves.
- Rate yourself from 1 to 5 on the same eight traits.
- Ask someone who knows your work well to rate you too.
- Note where your ratings differ most, and your two lowest traits.
