Your project: an inbox that sorts itself

In this course you will build a real automation, step by step. When it is finished, every new email to your business inbox is read by AI, sorted, logged in a spreadsheet, and answered with a draft reply that waits for you to check and send.

You do not need to know programming. You will click, copy and paste, and test each step as you go. By the last lesson the workflow runs on its own, 24 hours a day.

The four tools you will use

Before you start

Have these ready:

• A computer with Google Chrome (a phone is not enough for building).
• Your mobile phone, for verification codes.
• A personal email address you can send test emails from.
• A safe place to keep passwords and keys, such as a password manager.

Step 1: Create the project Google account

1. Open accounts.google.com/signup in Chrome. If you are already signed in, first click your picture at the top right and choose Add another account.
2. Type a first name, for example your company name, and click Next (marks 1 and 2).
3. Enter a birthday and gender, then choose Create your own Gmail address. Pick something clear, such as yourcompany.requests@gmail.com.
4. Choose a strong password and save it in your password manager.
5. If Google asks for a phone number, enter yours and type the code it sends. Add a recovery email, review the details and click I agree.
6. Open gmail.com and check that the new inbox opens.

Step 2: Create your n8n Cloud account

1. Open app.n8n.cloud/register.
2. Type an email you can open (mark 1). The new Gmail is fine. Click Continue (mark 2).
3. Fill in your name and a password. Choose a workspace name: it becomes your n8n address, for example yourcompany.app.n8n.cloud. Write it down.
4. If n8n sends a confirmation email, open it and click the link.
5. Answer the short welcome questions, then wait a minute while n8n prepares your workspace. You land on the n8n home page.

Step 3: Get your Gemini API key

An API key is a long password that lets n8n use Google's Gemini AI on your behalf.

1. Open aistudio.google.com/apikey and sign in with the project Google account (marks 1 and 3).
2. The first time, accept the Google AI Studio terms.
3. Click Create API key. If asked, let it create a new Google Cloud project for you.
4. Copy the key that appears (it starts with letters and numbers, about 40 characters) and save it in your password manager as Gemini API key - email project.

Step 4: Prepare the log sheet and test emails

1. Signed in with the project account, open sheets.new. A blank sheet opens.
2. Click the title Untitled spreadsheet and rename it Email Requests Log.
3. Copy the headings below, click cell A1 and paste. They fill A1 to H1.
4. From your personal email, send the five test emails in the tabs below to the project Gmail address.
